Mystery and the poetry

Life is not a problem to be solved; it is a mystery to be lived, a poetry to be celebrated, says Osho. Why am I here? Why are these trees, flowers, rivers, stars and people here? There is no way to know why, but it is awe-inspiring and fills the heart with wonder. It is, of course, tremendously beautiful. Since these beautiful things are there, why waste time trying to find out why they are there? Why not just treasure them, conserve and celebrate them, instead of taking the path of exploitation and destruction?

Out on a walk, one notices several people who have their earphones on, listening to something - music, podcast, book, talk - completely oblivious of the greatest show going on right before their eyes. Shutting out nature when you are right there seems quite very atrocious. Why deny oneself this beautiful experience? Why ignore it?

Imagine, you know the answers to all questions about life. How utterly boring! There will be nothing more to wonder about, to discover, to feel amazed and to celebrate.


In a predictable world, life will perhaps come to a standstill. It is precisely because nature is infinite that it is mysterious and full of allure and innocence. 'You can't be suspicious of a tree, or accuse a bird or a squirrel of subversion, or challenge the ideology of a violet,' wrote Hal Borland. That's how enchanting nature is. There are no sermons in stones. Yet, nature could be your go-to guru.
