Viveka can tell right from wrong. Thoughts that have been recorded as lived experiences and kept in the subconscious mind cannot be erased over time. Similarly, these recorded thoughts are the foundation for furthering new ideas of the present and the future, besides spiritual wisdom. Without the recorded thoughts, no thinking is conceivable.
