Essence of giving

We may have experienced an opportunity to give something away to someone in need, making a sacrifice, only to find that it was either returned to us or circumstances changed and we did not need to give it away. Yet, regardless of the result, we were rewarded with the feeling of satisfaction.

We thank God that we chose to give rather than to be selfish. That is the power and essence of giving. It is always better to give than to receive, we give because we care, and we care because we love. Each act of giving sends this love outward, and in doing so, expands the reservoir of love within us, bringing deeper joy, contentment, happiness and peace into our lives.

It is not what we give, nor how much we give that matters most, but how we give and the intention behind it. That intention reveals the love we carry within our being. Human beings are shaped for love, service and giving; shoulders to carry another's burden, feet to walk toward those in need, arms to gather the world into an embrace, and a heart that grows larger each time it gives.


When we give of ourselves to ease the pain and suffering of the Divine's creation, we receive God's love in return, and our connection with the Divine is strengthened. Furthermore, when we go within through meditation and experience God's love for ourselves, we become imbued in God's love.
