Yes, Ganga Ma must be cleaned. We as a country have failed the river by dumping our filth into it. Strict laws and execution of those laws are needed to ensure that all polluters face stiff penalties.

Our Ganga Maiya is crying for help to restore its health. If the health of rivers Thames, Yellow and Singapore river can be restored, why not Ganga’s? All we need is collective will based on compassion of people and social groups, and strong and determined action from the central government.

Rivers in India are polluted because of the chemicals that are dumped in the waters by industries that operate with scant concern for the environment. The Narendra Modi government should declare a national policy to protect our precious natural resources.

Ganga is the most sacred river that touches the heart of every Indian. Fast-rising population has put acute pressure on the river, as has the discharge of waste into the river, thus damaging the fragile environment. The government needs colossal efforts to clean the Ganga. It is hoped that the river will once again turn truly holy.
