The author’s right, but get the timing right too. When Air India’s performance has improved substantially and global networks like Star Alliance are acknowledging the same, one should wait for the turnaround before divesting.

Giving Air India a few thousand crore every year is like pouring expensive Bisleri water into a gutter and hoping the gutter water will become fit for drinking one day. It is a waste of taxpayer money with zero social or economic benefit.

The author’s comparison of Indi-Go’s smaller A320 with Air India’s very big B747/B777/B787 aircraft is wrong. Also, Air India can be instrumental in keeping air-ticket cartels under check. And can the author explain why privately-run half-a-dozen airlines have shut down in recent times?
