iAy, caramba! It turns out we got mansplained last week, and are worse for the wear for it. Last Saturday, fed by a quote that turned out to be as reliable as a north Delhi dhaba-made paella, we wrote a JIJ (bit.ly/3PaAdF7) ostentatiously titled, 'A kiss is, indeed, just a kiss, even in Spain.' Nope. We were as wrong as Rick was about Ilsa in Casablanca. In a bid to protect Spanish football federation RFEF president Luis Rubiales from the charge of planting a non-consensual kiss on the mouth of Spanish World Cup-winning player Jenni Hermoso, RFEF released quotes falsely attributed to her, making out the kiss to be a 'totally spontaneous mutual gesture', and, in our words, 'macho ado about nothing'. It turns out Hermoso said nothing of that sort. She has come out womansplaining and having the last word, correcting the picture.

As a result, Fifa has suspended Rubiales for 90 days, and the whole Spanish World Cup-winning team - including the coaching team, but excluding controversial manager Jorge Vilda - has resigned in support of Hermoso. We, too, stand corrected and stand with Hermoso, taking up the tag #SeAcabo - #It'sOver (the excuse). Hoping that it will now also apply closer home to Brij Bhushan Singh, Wrestling Federation of India president and accused of sexual harassment of women wrestlers.
