The Arvind Kejriwal show, season 1 Ep 2

If one sidesteps the biggest political news of Thursday - veteran actor and former Hero No. 1 Govind Arun Ahuja a.k.a. Govinda joining Shiv Sena (no, not that one, but that one) - the top name that comes up is Arvind Kejriwal. After an underexaggerating day at the Rouse Avenue Court in Delhi, he was remanded - a courtly way of saying that the accused was sent away from court until his trial begins - till April Fool's Day. Rather remarkably in Indian politics for at least a decade, the Delhi CM takes top billing in terms of headline space. This is remarkable partly because he has managed to do so while being accused of being part of a supposed contraband operation (kickbacks) involving a (legal) recreational substance (alcohol) - both frowned upon - and partly because less than a month before national election starts, he has the most brand recall among politicians.

True, brand recall doesn't amount to electoral success. But by holding forth at court on Thursday, the AAP leader reaffirmed the truth in that old adage: bad news is good news, good news is no news, and no news is bad news. The timing of The Kejriwal Show can't hurt him more than jail time - or, at least, Enforcement Directorate custody time. How the next episode of this season goes will hold the key to the many twists and turns of plotlines, and knives.
