The truth will set you free. Well, kind of. After Elon Musk posed the simple question on Twitter, 'Should I step down as head of Twitter? I will abide by the results of this poll,' the blue birds have come to roost. Of the 17,502,391 votes registered on Monday, 57.5% said yes, 42.5% said no. Which, going by the high unlikelihood of Musk not being an avatar of either Donald Trump or Jair Bolsonaro, means the Twitter owner will now replace himself as CEO. While many may see this as a reality check being delivered to the world's richest person for wasting time and energy on Twitter and becoming the world's second-richest man, the poll itself is very likely to be the 'patli gali' the man needed to get out of one tricky position: Twitter CEOhood.

Twitter's investors must have realised they have been backing a bucking bronco, as Musk in his Twitterdad mode continues to behave like an algorithm fed on a daily dose of methamphetamine. Enter Elon's cunning exit plan - make that sermon on the mount that is the gigantic molehill of Twitter and ask the public. And make the step-down seem not the result of barking men in suits who want to see their money's worth of money, but a will of the people, a mandate that he will respect since he's heavily into respecting popular will. 'Sir, the getaway car is ready,' his chauffeur can now say safely.
