It's time to retire the term 'tallest leader'. From cliche, it has now reached the top shelves of the ridiculous. Describing, say, Napoleon Bonaparte or Pranab Mukherjee as 'one of the tallest leaders' of his country barely makes the grade even in the wide berth figurative speech provides. It's a surprise that the woke folks - hypersensitive to political correctness the way vampires are to sunlight - haven't found it 'absolutely unacceptable' to correlate respect with height. We can still get away with 5 ft 6 in, even 5'5", but describing anyone below that height would be a subliminal taunt at best that can't be tolerated any higher, sorry, longer.

In fact, we should be calling Turkey saare jahan se lambaa. This is because the tallest living woman, Turkey's Rumeysa Gelgi, was measured earlier this week standing at 7'0.7". She joins Sultan Kosen, also Turkish, who at 8'2.8" is the tallest living man. Sure, the 24-year-old Gelgi and the 38-year-old Kosen aren't technically 'leaders' - the former is a trainee web developer, the latter is a farmer. But they - along with (both Americans) Robert Wadlow (8'11.1") and Sandra Allen (7'7"), the tallest-ever recorded humans - deserve the high praise. More than anything, the epithet 'tallest leader' is a lazy shortcut that needs to be cut out, not just down to size.
