Greenland, the world's largest island, makes most of its money from fish, tourism, and its mothership, Denmark. But now it wants to float free - politically and economically. Enter Arctic Ice, a startup that's turning Greenland's icy fjords into a hot commodity in the deserts of super-rich UAE. Arctic Ice harvests ice from the fjords of Greenland, and then ships them to the UAE to sell to exclusive bars. Make no mistake, these are VIP ice cubes. They have been chilling longer than most of us have been around - 100,000 years, to be more precise. These divas are untouched by contaminated soil or human pollution and slow-melting.

Some folks are giving them the side-eye, saying they're painting a picture straight out of climate change dystopia. But Arctic Ice insists it's not skating on thin ice - its first shipping leg, from Greenland to Denmark, is as low on carbon as a cup of decaf, especially since most refrigerated containers heading out of Greenland are empty. While Arctic Ice wrestles with such questions, here is a drink (with the precious cubes) for thought: maybe someday you will be sipping cocktails with Greenlandic ice while lounging on Emirati-made DIY beaches on the ice sheet. Kasuutta to that!
