While BCCI may think fewer distractions equals better performance - cricket not to be confused with the play that L&T does - history offers a different perspective. England's 2006 World Cup football campaign was apparently marred by the presence of WAGs like Victoria Beckham, a.k.a. Mrs David B, and Coleen Rooney, a.k.a. Mrs Wayne R, who were blamed for distracting the players. By 2010, the English FA had banned WAGs outright - though it didn't exactly lead to any podium finishes. So, here's the 10 cr question: why are WAGs only a problem when the team's performance falters? When they're winning, it's all smiles, family selfies and Insta reels. Why blame WAGs when, um, you lose? The Aussies didn't have a purdah. And they won the series.
