And the Oscar has already gone to...

It's exactly a month away from the Oscars. So, it's safe to be honest. For those into the annual prize distribution, the Oscars can be broken into two categories: about who won what, and the actual award ceremony. Keeping the shrinking of human attention and time in mind, the Academy Awards ceremony organisers have decided that the awards for eight categories - documentary short, film editing, makeup/hairstyling, original score, production design, animated short, live action short, and sound - will take place an hour before the live telecast of the 94th Oscars starts. At the cost of the American Guild of Wigs and Costuming fuming, this is a wise move. Let's be honest. A vast majority of us are interested in only seeing and hearing the best actress, best actor, best director, best supporting actress and best supporting actor on our screens. For old time's sake, the best film presentation being part of the ceremony also makes sense.

This is not to cast aspersions on the talent of the winners in the 'off-camera' categories - whose acceptance of their awards will be recorded and subsequently edited into the live feed of the 'real show'. It just means that until, say, Bradley Cooper or Emily Blunt do some excellent original film score or film editing, we'd rather stick to the show'n'tell bits on Oscar night/early morning.
