A dress for catwalks is a swiss cakewalk

When someone makes a cake that can be worn as a dress, is that person a baker or a designer? Considering that Natasha Fokas, creator of the world's largest edible dress - Lady Gaga's 2010 MTV Awards meat dress designed by Franc Fernandez and styled by Nicola Formichetti made of raw beef strips doesn't count - is a Swiss baker, we will plump for the former. The 131.5 kg white wedding dress was made with traditional wedding cake ingredients and unveiled last month at the Swiss World Wedding Fair. For the cake-dress to be officially recognised as the largest, the model had to walk at least 16 ft without the dress crumbling. Which turned out to be a cakewalk.

But Fokas' creation is also very much fit for the catwalk - as the flowers on the dress made of royal icing and sweetheart neckline made it out to be. Fokas is the owner of SweetyCakes, a bakery in the Swiss town of Thun specialising in custom-made cakes. Now she could well expand her enterprise to SweetyThreads. As far as Christian weddings go, with this cake dress, a separate wedding cake can be done without. After performing the ceremony, the sweet lucky bride could change into something more comfy while guests partake of her dress. Not a far cry from the candy house that Hansel and Gretel consumed with relish - but minus the liabilities the two had to incur for eating a candy house.
