Wipro taps power of 2, aims for top 10
Wipro has ushered in a new management structure to handle its $4.3b IT business.
How will the new structure run?
Girish Paranjpe (GP): We are now jointly responsible for Wipro���s IT business as a single entity, dissolving the past distinction. Now, we are looking at how we can leverage this combined entity for technology and market access.
As far as the India business goes, seven to eight years ago the market here was very different, but it has changed now and corporates can afford big-ticket items. They deserve all the complex technology solutions we have.
Suresh Vaswani (SV): Our future reporting will be as one combined entity of an integrated IT services. We will be showing separately our global IT business as services and products.
What was the driving logic for this combined entity?
SV: It is not about Wipro Infotech or (Wipro) Technologies merging. This is a new way of doing business where will architecting about our future vision. This also will be a transformation opportunity, which will make our IT business stronger.
What are the strengths both of you bring to the table?
SV: We work in complementary fashion. The key thing being that the power of two CEOs can address the various challenges and opportunities. This about strategising for the future.
GP: There are multiple options on how we can complement each other. We are over a $4 b business becoming more complex so it needs a lot of management bandwidth.
What is the long-term goal?
SV: Our goal is to be among the top 10 IT services companies by 2010-11 by 2010-11. Now we have to drive it through transformation and a common strategy.
