We'll consider other stake sales only after Bhel: Deshmukh
A booster dose for the auto industry, dilution of govt stake in Bhel and revival of sick PSUs are among the priority items on the agenda of Vilasrao Deshmukh.

What is your road map for divestment in Bhel and what will be the time line for it?
We have to confirm from the disinvestment department. We are waiting for their instruction; and once we receive it, we will see. The Bhel board will also discuss the issues involved and will come out with a solution.
Do you think the auto industry needs more sops?
I have met many associations representing the industry. My ministry is looking at the auto policy. Because of the slowdown, commercial vehicle sales dropped and they need help. We have discussed the proposal and sent it to the finance ministry for consideration.
Any plan to scrap excise on big cars?
Associations have submitted proposals on that and we have a sympathetic view to it.
What kind of excise cuts are you looking at?
When you need support, some incentives need to be given. All these are under our active consideration. What is practical will be done. We want the industry to survive and take care of consumers. Both the things will be weighed and a good solution will be found.
Are you considering a change in emission guidelines that will make the costs go up?
As far as environment is concerned, I will not compromise.
Are you also considering changes in the auto policy?
Whatever changes are to be done, we will examine. We want the industry to grow, sales to grow; it should be a win-win situation for both the industry and consumers.
Are you looking at divesting stakes in other companies too?
We are open to other companies once Bhel is done. There are a few loss-making companies that are under the heavy industries ministry, and their divestment is also on the agenda.
What is your plan for revival of sick PSUs?
We have a plan. We asked them to submit their revival plan and I think by end of June they will do it .We will examine the plan and send it to the finance ministry for whatever support they have asked for.
