In a chat with ET Now, Venkat R Kalavakolanu, CMD, Jupiter Bioscience, talks about the peptide business.

You are doing peptides - if I understand correctly - from basic stage to finish stage. Is it so?

Yes, this is the only company in the world doing with start to finish in peptides - peptide building block to the finished formulation.

How significant is the market in terms of the pricing and volumes and are you operating at full capacity?

Primarily, we need to understand one thing that peptide pharmaceutical is an emerging field in the pharmaceutical segment. Peptide market worldwide today is close to 10-12 billion out of the 600 billion pharma market and is growing at an average rate of 15%. So the number of manufacturers in this space is very limited when you look at the API segment.

What is your current capacity? Are you adding any more and what could be the revenue ramp up on the peptide business itself?

On the peptide business, we expect to grow at the rate of 35-40% because we are getting into the value added segment of APIs and finished formulations both in India as well as in Switzerland where we have a manufacturing facility for peptide APIs. So the coming 3 to 4 years are going to see a growth rate of around 30-40%.
