Nifty is entrenched as proxy for investment in India: Chitra Ramkrishna, NSE
In India, people trade in Nifty, but you also find a lot of the overseas destinations where we are licensed Nifty, says Chitra Ramkrishna

Chitra Ramkrishna: Nifty started first as a barometer of the market. It has really taken and found acceptability with the market participants in the last 15 years. Today, it is truly a proxy for the Indian asset class and Indian investment. In India, people trade in Nifty, but you also find a lot of the overseas destinations where we are licensed Nifty. There are products on Nifty that are returning structured or ETN kind of products. We also have ETF structures on Nifty in other domains and, of course, exchanges that trade Nifty. The 15-year journey has helped us entrench Nifty as a proxy for the investment in India.
