Govt’s success in last one year augurs well for India Inc: VS Parthasarathy, Mahindra and Mahindra Ltd

In a chat with ET Now, VS Parthasarathy, CFO, Mahindra and Mahindra Ltd, shares his views on the one year of the Modi government. Excerpts:



ET Now: There is plenty that needs to be done and some quarters of India Inc are getting impatient. Is that impatience warranted at this stage? Are you satisfied with the last 365 days? Do you believe that political capital has been put to enough use? Do you feel that enough reforms have been covered in the last one year?

VS Parthasarathy: We are very positive about what has been done so far and what is to come. I would summarise the last one-year as one in which no short cuts were taken and one in which the right things were done and that too the right way.

This includes budget focusing for the long term, increasing the FDI limit, containing fiscal deficit, deregulating petrol and diesel, bringing transparency - whether in the spectrum auction or the coal auction, etc.

The other big development I see is ease of doing business. The very fact that it is in focus is a great first step by the government. Make in India is also a big positive. It gives a lot of emphasis on what we can do as a country. Financial inclusion is another move.

Lastly, in the last one year, inflation has been brought under control. However, all this does not mean that there are no worries on the horizon. But overall, it has been a positive one year and that augurs well for India Inc and India as a country.
