The Food Safety and Standards Association of India (FSSAI) is awaiting test reports on lead contamination in Maggi noodles. Yudhvir Singh Malik, CEO of the apex food regulator, told Madhvi Sally in an interview that the priority is to ensure safety and quality. Edited excerpts:

By when do you expect state governments to test samples of Maggi noodles and send you the laboratory reports?

We are hopeful states will send the laboratory test reports by Monday or Tuesday. Post that only I can comment on the quality of Maggi noodles or what further action we can take. Action will be taken if the company is found to violate food safety norms.
