'Elections are harder than filmmaking': Prakash Jha
In a tête-à-tête with Vithika Salomin, Filmmaker and JD(U) candidate Prakash Jha talks about the ongoing elections and his promises to the people.

On 'political sanyas' post the 2009 defeat
I had said I will not contest after that. From 2004 to 2009, I didn't make any films and concentrated on working here. After 2009, I went back to Mumbai and mad four films. I decided to contest again because no MP has done anything here since Independence.
His promises
My focus will be on 'naujawan aur kisan' (youth and farmers). I want to bring up educational institutions and stop migration. I also want to set up an agriculture research centre here and introduce methods of alternative cropping.
On Paschim Champaran being a BJP seat
My votebank which cuts across all sections. There is anti-incumbency as the sitting MP has done nothing.
On his chances since he lost twice
In 2004 as an Independent, it was a symbolic fight. Between 2004 and 2009, I was here. I am hopeful of making it this time.
On people saying he does not live here
Yes, I was in Mumbai making films. But where was the sitting MP? He is inaccessible. I was not here physically but supported many families. I am popular as a local who has earned a name and returned.
On the transition from movies to politics
This is not politics for me. I want to help people. Movies are always there. Elections are harder than movie-making.
