Sarah Palin leads the polls

Palin has come as a saviour of sorts for the the funny TV chat shows.

The late-night TV chat shows in the US were wondering what they would do for funny material once George W Bush left the White House. And then came the announcement that John McCain had chosen as his running mate the 44-year-old Alaska governor who had, in 1984, been the second runner-up in a state beauty pageant.

Last month, her failure to mention in an interview the name of any newspaper or magazine she had read, coupled with her ability to bring down a moose with a single shot, made her the favourite of the late-night TV chat shows whose hosts are always looking for fresh material for jokes and who even employ writers to come up with one-liners which will bring the house down.

With the US in the midst of its worst-ever economic crisis since the Great Depression of 1929, Palin has come as a saviour of sorts for the chat show hosts who have to keep looking at the funny side of things. As Jay Leno quipped on NBCs Tonight, Back in 1984, Sarah Palin came second in the Miss Alaska beauty pageant. Now she can be vice president. You know what that means? For the first time in history, a beauty pageant queen may actually bring about world peace. They have talked about it for years. Heres one that could do it!

The news that the Alaska governors 17-year-old daughter Bristol was pregnant and was expected to marry the boyfriend inspired Conan OBrien to quip, Speaking of Sarah Palin, she says shes a life-long member of the National Rifle Association. Which may explain why shes in favour of shotgun weddings!

The choice of the Alaska governor as the Republican presidential nominees running mate inspired Craig Ferguson to point out out that some people are saying that McCain picked Sarah Palin to appeal to women who supported Hillary Clinton. That is crazy. You cant just replace Hillary Clinton with another woman. Bill tried that, it didnt work out! Jokes on Palin seem to work out!
