Import lobbies: But Veerappa Moily's an honourable man...

On who holds the black gold purse, we offer a wee bit of free verse.

Import lobbies: But Veerappa Moily's an honourable man...
Friends, Indians, oil men, lend me your barrels;

I come to bury my predecessors, not to praise them.

The evil they did lives on after them.

The good, if any, oft ends with their tenure:

So let it be with oil industry. The ignoble import lobbies

Hath told us all it is wise to import;

If it were so, it was a grievous fault;

And grievously will they pay for it;

Here, under leave of UPA, come I to put things right.

Domestic oil men are my friends, faithful and just to me;

And import lobbies say they are useless;

But I am the honourable man

I say, oil should be made of domestic stuff;

Yet people say I am ambitious;

But I'm an honourable man

I speak not to name the import lobbies,

But here I am to speak what I do know

We all love home-dug oil - not without cause,

What cause withholds us then to slash imports?

O oil contracts, thou art fled to foreign beasts

And Indians have lost their contracts! - Toil with me,

My heart is in the Indian oil barrels,

And I must not pause till we become self-sufficient.
