Darth Vader's antics in Ukraine might jell well with some Indian parties
It is likely the crisis in Crimea, between Ukraine and Russia, took many Indians by surprise. Of course, that’s not much of a compliment on the general world-awareness of the average literate Indian.

Now, it turns out some in that disputed region might also have been mystified by events and seen things as some sort of prelude to an actual re-enactment of Star Wars. Hence, we had Darth Vader make an attempt to run for the Ukrainian presidency.

This particular gentleman walked up to Kiev presidential registration office dressed like the embodiment of the dark side, and duly presented officials with a passport stating he was the Sith Lord.

Perhaps the chap, who officials say might be a local electrician, believed only the dark force could help straighten things out. But at least whacky things like that mightn’t be news for Indians — what with reports listing some of the more peculiar parties having a go at elections here.

Apparently, we have everything from the “Religion of Man Revolving Political Party of India”, through the “Indian Lovers Party” to the “Stay Awake Party”, amongst others.

They have yet to try their luck, but the Kiev Darth Vader, having been turned away, has announced he will now run for president of Russia. Perchance, given either a crisis or cantankerous Indian polls, one should be grateful for a bit of mirth!
