'Da Da Da' by German band Trio is a true testament to the brilliance of simplicity in music. Released in 1982, this song captures the essence of the minimalist new wave movement that characterised much of the early 80s. Its sparse arrangement, repetitive lyrics and catchy melody make it an unforgettable piece of pop culture.

The genius of 'Da Da Da' lies in its ability to create an infectious tune using minimal instrumentation and lyrics. Its structure is built around a simple drum machine beat, a few Casio keyboard notes and the iconic eponymous three-word chorus. Despite (because of?) this, the song takes on Dada-ist proportions.

Stephan Remmler's uber-deadpan delivery of the lines, 'This is what you got to know/ Loved you though it didn't show' followed by the caterpillar-tumble of 'Ich lieb dich nicht, du liebst mich nicht'-I don't love you, you don't love me-takes every love song, especially of the cheesy 80s, and strings them up upside down.

Remmler's fabulous monotone is drenched in irony. Trio's minimalism maximises pure sonic genius.
