US proposes ending H-1B visa 60-day grace period: What workers need to know about the major change

The US government has proposed removing the 60-day grace period currently available to eligible H-1B workers after they lose or leave a job. The proposal could also affect L-1, O-1, E-1, E-2, E-3, H-1B1 and TN visa holders, along with eligible dependents. If finalized, workers could have far less time to find a new legal way to remain in the US after employment ends. However, the change is not in force yet. The Department of Homeland Security proposal is due to be published in the Federal Register on September 11, followed by a 60-day public comment period. Until a final rule is issued, the existing 60-day grace period remains in place.
