The UAE will introduce an artificial intelligence and robotics-based system to screen work permit applicants from May, as part of efforts to improve labour market efficiency and attract skilled professionals, according to Khaleej Times.

The system, launched by the Federal Authority for Identity and Citizenship, Customs and Port Security in partnership with the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation, will assess applicants using data-driven tools. Authorities said the platform will evaluate candidates based on skills, education, experience and knowledge.

AI-based screening to assess applicants

Officials said the system introduces “objective evaluation mechanisms” to streamline hiring decisions and align workforce quality with market needs. The move is aimed at supporting a shift towards a more productive and knowledge-based economy.

The initiative comes as part of the UAE’s broader push to integrate advanced technologies into government operations. Authorities said the system will help match talent with industry requirements while ensuring a balanced labour market.

Part of wider AI-led government push

The rollout is linked to a larger framework to expand the use of AI across federal services. The government plans to convert 50% of its operations to AI-driven systems within two years under this initiative.

Officials said these systems will not only automate processes but also analyse data, make recommendations and manage tasks with minimal human intervention. A dedicated taskforce has been set up to oversee implementation and monitor performance across government entities.

Authorities said the work permit screening system reflects ongoing efforts to enhance efficiency, reduce costs and strengthen the UAE’s position as a global hub for skilled talent.
