The UAE Media Council has extended the registration period for its Advertiser Permit, originally introduced in July, allowing content creators to register until January 31, 2026, as reported by Khaleej Times. The permit is mandatory for UAE residents, citizens as well as visitors sharing advertisements, paid or unpaid, on social media, websites, or apps.

For UAE citizens and residents, the permit is valid for one year and can be renewed annually. Individuals under 18 may be granted a permit through a legal guardian. Applicants must also hold a trade license in electronic media from the relevant authority.

Visitors to the UAE can obtain a permit through licensed advertising or talent management agencies operating in the country, valid for up to three months and renewable.

Why register for the Advertiser Permit

The Advertiser Permit is part of a wider regulatory framework aimed at enhancing transparency, professionalism, and consumer protection in the UAE’s digital advertising sector.

It also seeks to support the growth of high-quality content, encourage investment, and attract skilled professionals in media and advertising.

Exemptions and compliance requirements

Certain groups are exempt from the requirement, including individuals advertising their own products or services and minors engaged in educational, sports, cultural, or awareness-related activities, as defined by UAE legislation.

Permit holders are required to comply with media content standards, clearly display their permit number on registered accounts, and publish advertisements only through approved channels. The Council also mandates that advertisers ensure they are not using fake companies, pseudonyms, or fraudulent accounts.

The development is part of a comprehensive effort to create a flexible regulatory environment that keeps pace with the fast-evolving media industry while protecting consumers from misleading content.

The Media Council’s guidebook and detailed application instructions are available for applicants seeking to secure an Advertiser Permit.

This extension provides creators with additional time to comply with the new regulations and ensures continued alignment with the UAE’s efforts to professionalise and regulate its growing digital advertising ecosystem.
