“A few autonomous trucks are already active in Masdar City, doing deliveries. We need a certain number of hours to prove that it is safe. Then it will be extended to Khalifa City. We will then do another trial in Dubai as well. In one year, we will have those vehicles on the roads across the UAE," said Tariq Al Wahedi, Group CEO.
The CEO emphasised that the system will benefit courier, express and parcel (CEP) services by reducing traffic and costs. “It’s crucial because all CEP players can put their shipments for delivery. It's like a train; it will stop at stations and deliver the goods. This will reduce traffic on the roads, and will be very economical for all CEP players,” he said to Khaleej Times during the 28th Universal Postal Union (UPU) event in Dubai.
7X’s subsidiaries include Emirates Post, Innovation Studio, EMX, and Fintx. The company has also launched a national logistics network (NXN), connecting local and international delivery services and enabling faster, more efficient shipments.
Al Wahedi added that 7X has shifted from second-day deliveries to quick commerce, with some deliveries taking as little as 10 minutes. Through the company’s app, Win, customers can set different delivery preferences for parcels and food orders, improving efficiency and flexibility.
Other UAE firms are also testing autonomous deliveries. In April, Yango Technology partnered with Roots and Roads and the Transport Authority to pilot deliveries within a 22-kilometre radius in Sobha Hartland in under 30 minutes.
The UAE’s move toward driverless delivery reflects its growing position as a testing ground for advanced transport technologies. Officials and companies are increasingly leveraging automation to improve logistics efficiency, reduce traffic, and enhance urban mobility.
