Thailand led the list of the top 10 international destinations booked by Indian travellers for the year-end and New Year holiday period of 2025, overtaking the UAE to take the top position, according to a report by MakeMyTrip. The report covers travel booked between December 20, 2025, and January 5, 2026, and is compared with the same period last year.
The UAE stood second on the list, followed by Sri Lanka at third place. Vietnam emerged as one of the biggest gainers, rising to the fourth position in 2025 from seventh during the same period in 2024. Malaysia ranked fifth among the most booked international destinations for Indian travellers.
Indonesia, Singapore, the UK, the US and Hong Kong completed the top 10 list. Short-haul destinations in Southeast Asia continued to dominate bookings, supported by easier visa access and familiarity among Indian travellers.
According to the report, travellers are also showing a preference for upgraded stays and combining leisure trips with short international holidays.
Rajesh Magow, Co-founder and Group CEO of MakeMyTrip, said, “Short-haul international travel also continues to see momentum, led by familiar regions even as newer destinations begin to gain traction.”
