The Eras tour by global pop sensation Taylor Swift has sparked a rise in European air travel for the upcoming summer season.

United Airlines, one of the major carriers, has reported a significant increase in travel demand to popular European destinations such as Lisbon, Portugal, and Madrid, Spain, over the Memorial Day weekend, SchengenNews reports.

This increase, estimated to be about 25 per cent higher than last year, is directly attributed to Taylor Swift's Eras tour, which has sparked a travel frenzy among her fans. Similar price hikes are anticipated in other cities hosting the tour in the coming weeks, such as Madrid, Edinburgh, and Dublin, says SchengenNews report.

Tourism is also anticipated to rise this summer as American fans often attend concerts in Europe, where ticket prices are notably lower than for domestic shows. Owing to high demand and strict resale regulations, tickets for Taylor Swift's concerts can exceed $1,000 as per the report.

“Milan has experienced the highest passenger-wise surge with a 45 per cent increase in demand for the debut of the Swift in July compared to last year.”

Delta and United Airlines have announced plans to fly around three million passengers during the Memorial Day weekend, spanning from Thursday to the following Monday. This marks a five per cent increase compared to last year.

At the same time, Airlines for America, a group representing major US airlines, is predicting a record number of passengers this summer, with companies expected to fly 270 million passengers – six per cent more than in 2023, the report says.

Taylor Swift's tour leaves a huge impact on the nation’s economy. New data reveals that more than one million ‘Swifties’, will go to her UK concerts this summer.

In January this year, Amadeus flight search data revealed that international searches for travel to Paris, France, increased by 21 per cent, especially around Era’s 2024 tour dates. Austria, Belgium, Switzerland, Germany, Denmark, Finland, Ireland, the Netherlands, Norway and the USA are also included in the countries that experienced the same trend of increasing flights, says the report.
