Singapore’s largest taxi operator, ComfortDelGro Corp. Ltd., will start offering one-way rides from Singapore to Malaysia from next Thursday, providing more options for travelers crossing one of the world’s busiest land borders. Passengers picked up from most locations in Singapore will pay a fixed fare of S$80 ($62) and be dropped off at Larkin Terminal in Johor Bahru, according to ComfortDelGro’s Facebook post.

The new service follows discussions between Singapore authorities and taxi and private hire associations in August. The groups highlighted that current cross-border taxi services were unable to meet demand from Singaporeans traveling to Malaysia, the Land Transport Authority (LTA) said in a Facebook post. Travelers include large families with young children, elderly Singaporeans visiting relatives, and businesspeople.

Authorities also discussed increasing quotas, using larger capacity vehicles, and partnering with platform companies for app-based bookings, LTA added.

The move comes as Singapore and Malaysia boost bilateral cooperation under the Johor–Singapore Special Economic Zone, aimed at attracting investments and improving labor mobility. Transport options are set to expand further with the upcoming Rapid Transit Link between Singapore and Johor Bahru. The project, expected to start by the end of 2026, will have a peak capacity of up to 10,000 passengers per hour in each direction.
