SAS withdrew its services in India in 2009 during the global financial crisis.
The airline had earlier announced the re-launch of its flight services from June 2 this year with five flights from Copenhagen, the capital city of Denmark, to Mumbai.
However, the flight reportedly had to return midway due to some regulatory issues.

"This strategic route represents an extraordinary milestone for SAS, opening effortless doors between Scandinavia and one of the world's most dynamic economic hubs. As SAS celebrates 80 years of pioneering international travel, reconnecting our regions is a deeply proud moment for all of us," said Paul Verhagen, Chief Commercial Officer at SAS.
The route restores SAS' presence in India after 17 years, expanding its intercontinental network and opening access to one of the world's fastest-growing economies, it said, adding that this connection unlocks dynamic opportunities for travel, business and cultural exchange between Northern Europe and India's vibrant financial capital.
The new service also strengthens Copenhagen Airport's role as a major international gateway, offering smooth connections to key SAS long-haul and European destinations, including New York, Boston and Toronto, the airline said.
"The return of Scandinavian Airlines to India marks a significant milestone, and we are proud to be part of this journey. Our partnership, built over more than three decades, reflects a shared belief in the long-term potential of the India-Scandinavia market. The Mumbai-Copenhagen route will not only meet the rising demand for direct, high-quality connectivity but also serve as a catalyst for closer business, trade, and cultural exchange," said JB Singh, Director, InterGlobe Air Transport.
