Oman has made registration on the Tawteen platform mandatory for all companies operating in the country, regardless of their size or sector. The requirement took effect in February and applies across industries, though enforcement is currently limited.

According to the update, the rule is being actively applied mainly to companies involved in government projects or operating in regulated sectors such as banking, healthcare, energy, telecommunications and finance. Other businesses may face lower levels of enforcement for now.

Tawteen is a government-run platform launched to support Omanization, which focuses on increasing the employment of Omani nationals in line with Oman Vision 2040. The platform is used for recruitment, processing labour clearances and visa requests for employees, and monitoring Omanization ratios and compliance.

The platform also allows authorities to track whether companies are meeting national employment targets for Omani citizens. While registration is now compulsory, the level of scrutiny varies depending on a company’s sector and its involvement with government-linked work.
