Mozambique launches digital e-Visa system for travellers from 183 countries including India

Mozambique has launched a new digital e-Visa system that allows travellers from 183 countries, including India, to apply online before departure. The Government of Mozambique introduced the platform under its digital transformation and border modernisation programme to improve efficiency, transparency and traveller convenience. Powered by VFS Global, the system aims to support tourism and investment by making entry procedures simpler and faster.

For travellers, the new system removes the need to visit a visa centre. Applicants can submit documents, pay the required fees and receive a pre-approved e-Visa by email before travelling. With the visa issued in advance and payment completed online, visitors can expect a smoother process at immigration counters on arrival.

The unified platform covers Tourist, Business, Crew Transhipment, Sports and Culture, Humanitarian Assistance, and Oil and Gas visas. Travellers can apply for both short-term stays and long-term visas valid for up to two years through a single system.


The application process involves four steps. Travellers must visit https://evisa.gov.mz, upload the required documents, pay the applicable fees and receive the approved e-Visa by email before departure. The platform works across mobile phones, tablets and desktop devices. It features automated data extraction from passports, an integrated photo editor and a secure international payment gateway. The system also provides 24/7 multilingual customer support.

Mozambique, located on the southeast coast of Africa, is known for its Indian Ocean coastline, islands and marine life. The Bazaruto Archipelago and Quirimbas Archipelago attract visitors for beaches, diving and snorkelling. Gorongosa National Park draws wildlife tourists, while Maputo, the capital city, serves as a gateway for business and leisure travellers. The country also hosts cultural festivals, music events and sports activities that appeal to international visitors.

The best time to visit Mozambique is during the dry season from May to October, when temperatures are moderate and conditions are suitable for beach holidays, safaris and outdoor activities. The warmer and wetter months from November to April bring higher humidity and rainfall, particularly along the coast.

The government expects the digital platform to support inbound travel growth in line with its tourism objectives. A tourism promotion programme will use the system and an international network to promote Mozambique globally.
