Hajj subsidy for first-time pilgrims in Tamil Nadu raised to Rs 35,000 in Budget 2026-27

Tamil Nadu Finance Minister Marie Wilson on Wednesday announced an increase in the state Hajj subsidy for first-time pilgrims from Rs 25,000 to Rs 35,000 while presenting the 2026-27 Budget in the Legislative Assembly. The revised assistance will benefit Muslims undertaking the Hajj pilgrimage for the first time.

The state government had earlier provided a fixed subsidy of Rs 25,000 per pilgrim from Hajj 2025 onwards under its Hajj assistance scheme. With the latest budget announcement, the financial assistance will increase by Rs 10,000, taking the total subsidy to Rs 35,000 for eligible first-time pilgrims.

The announcement comes as Tamil Nadu prepares for Hajj 2026, for which 4,065 pilgrims have been selected from the state through the Hajj Committee. The state received 10,846 applications, making a draw of lots necessary to allocate the quota.


The announcement was made as part of the Tamil Nadu government's first full Budget for the 2026-27 financial year. Finance Minister Marie Wilson presented several welfare measures and sector-specific initiatives during the budget speech.
