Airlines could only be exempted from paying financial compensation to passengers in case of a flight cancellation in case of local fuel shortages, the EU Commission said in a series of guidelines issued for airlines, confirming a Thursday report from Reuters.
Charging retroactively additional fees such as fuel surcharges is not allowed, it added.
