Dubai unveils first air taxi station near Dubai International Airport, targets faster city travel
A new air taxi service is set to launch in Dubai, with the first of four planned hubs now operational. The developer will manage the service, while authorities handle regulation and integration. Following successful test flights and trials, the op...

The station is a purpose-built hub for electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft and forms part of the city’s planned air mobility network. It spans 3,100 square metres and includes two landing pads, charging systems for electric aircraft, a two-level car park and climate-controlled passenger areas.
Reduced travel time
Authorities said the service could cut travel time across the city. A trip from the airport to Palm Jumeirah is expected to take about 10 minutes, compared with around 45 minutes by road. The facility was reviewed by Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, who said the initiative supports sustainable transport development.
“The launch of the air taxi infrastructure marks an important step in adopting new, sustainable modes of transport and strengthening Dubai’s readiness for the decades ahead,” he said.
The project is being developed by Skyports Infrastructure in partnership with Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority. Joby Aviation is developing the aircraft and is expected to operate the service, while authorities will manage regulation and integration with existing transport systems.
Testing and next steps
The development follows test flights and operational trials conducted in the UAE, including evaluations in high-temperature conditions. The operator is working with regulators to secure certification aligned with international aviation standards before commercial launch.
