Drukair is reintroducing twice-weekly flights from Paro to Bangkok via Guwahati
Guwahati: Drukair, Royal Bhutan Airlines, has announced the reintroduction of twice-weekly flights from Paro to Bangkok via Guwahati and commencement of third weekly frequency on its Singapore route via Guwahati starting this April 2026.

Tandi Wangchuk, Chief Executive Officer, Drukair Corporation Ltd who was in Guwahati on Friday told ET, “India Bhutan relationship is model which world can emulate. Our ties are such deep that Prime minister Narendra Modi’s first international visit after becoming Prime minister was to Bhutan.”

The Kokrajhar–Gelephu new railway line, spanning 69 kilometres, has been recently sanctioned under the India–Bhutan connectivity initiative and a highway project is being planned from the semiconductor plant at Jagiroad to Bhutan border via Udalguri by building another bridge over the Brahmaputra.


Wangchuk said that Gelephu Mindfulness City in Bhutan is coming up. “We have adopted best practices from different countries in building this city. While laws are being adopted from Singapore, finance model of Dubai is adopted. The airport of Gelephu will be operational by 2029 and this will provide major boost to aviation and tourism.”

He added, “Presently we operate this flight from Paro which has its geographical hurdles. We are build good relations with states neighbouring Bhutan."

He added, “The reintroduction of twice-weekly flights to Bangkok via Guwahati restores an important regional link that has historically played a significant role in facilitating tourism, medical travel, education, and business exchanges among Bhutan, Northeast states of India, and Thailand. Bangkok remains a major regional gateway with extensive global connectivity, and the reinstated service is expected to further stimulate tourism flows into the region while supporting outbound travel by Bhutanese passengers”.

The expanded flight services will operate on the Paro-Guwahati-Singapore and Paro-Guwahati- Bangkok sectors, further strengthening Bhutan’s regional air connectivity and enhancing travel options for passengers across South and Southeast Asia.

The additional Singapore frequency is introduced in response to sustained growth in passenger demand and reflects Drukair’s strategic focus on expanding access to key international gateways. Singapore serves as one of the world’s leading aviation and financial hubs, providing seamless onward connectivity to major destinations across Asia-Pacific, Europe, Australia, and North America. The increased frequency will offer greater flexibility, improved schedule options, and more efficient connections for both inbound and outbound travellers.

Wangchuk stated, “The introduction of a third weekly service to Singapore and the reinstatement of our Bangkok flights via Guwahati represent a significant step in Drukair’s ongoing network expansion strategy. The expansion aligns with the Government of India’s ‘Act East Policy’ as well as provide support to the travel requirements of Gelephu Mindfulness City (GMC) in southern Bhutan adjacent to Assam.
