Are Indians eligible for visa-on-arrival in the UAE?

Indian citizens can enter the United Arab Emirates without a prior visa if they hold valid residence permits or long-term visas from certain countries. The facility, already in place for some time, aims to simplify short visits for Indian passport holders who live or work abroad.

Under this provision, travellers with a valid visa or residence permit from the United States, United Kingdom, European Union member states, Singapore, Japan, South Korea, Australia, New Zealand, or Canada can obtain a UAE visa on arrival. The document is issued at all major entry points, including airports in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and Sharjah.

The passport must be valid for at least six months from the date of arrival. Expired or cancelled foreign visas are not accepted, and travellers must ensure they meet all entry conditions before departure.

Visa duration and fees

Visitors can choose between two types of visas based on the duration of their stay. A 14-day visa costs Dh100 and can be extended once for another 14 days at Dh250. For longer stays, a 60-day visa is available for Dh250. Payment is made upon arrival, and any extension must be processed before the visa expires.

Who qualifies

The visa-on-arrival is open to Indian citizens and their family members holding ordinary passports, provided they also possess one of the following:

• A valid US tourist visa, residence permit or Green Card
• A valid UK or EU tourist visa or residence permit
• A valid visa, residence permit or Green Card from Singapore, Japan, South Korea, Australia, New Zealand, or Canada

The visa-on-arrival is a single-entry document and cannot be transferred to other types of permits. Visitors must leave or renew their status before it lapses to avoid penalties.

The facility has become popular among Indian professionals and families with overseas residency, offering flexibility for short trips to the UAE for business, tourism, or transit.
