American Airlines has announced a change to its carry-on baggage policy aimed at simplifying the boarding process. Starting Monday, October 6, the airline will remove bag sizes from gate areas across the United States, as reported by KTLA.
The airline clarified that this does not mean passengers can bring larger carry-on bags. “Team members will continue to monitor carry-on baggage in the lobby and at the gate, and oversized items will still be required to be checked in ahead of the flight,” American said to KTLA. Bag sizers will remain in airport lobbies so travellers can check for themselves whether their luggage fits in the overhead bins.
The introduction of this change is part of broader efforts to make boarding smoother and reduce stress. Earlier this year, American implemented several enhancements, including expanded preboarding for families with young children, adding five extra minutes to boarding times, and introducing new gate technology to keep the process steady and efficient.
