Until now, Maharaja Club benefits were largely associated with the Tata-owned airline's mainline operations. With Air India Express joining the fold, members can now use points across a network of more than 55 destinations spanning India, South Asia, Southeast Asia and parts of West Asia.
Under the revised system, passengers will be able to redeem award flights on Air India Express starting from 1,500 Maharaja Points on select routes.
The airline said travellers can book flights such as Bengaluru-Goa for around 2,500 points. "For instance, you can now redeem your Maharaja Points from Bengaluru to Goa starting at 2,500 Maharaja Points, or from Pune to Bangkok starting at 12,000 Maharaja Points — opening up even more possibilities for your next journey," read the press release.
For Air India Express, the move also offers a chance to attract business and frequent travellers who may previously have overlooked the airline because of limited loyalty benefits.
One of India's oldest airline's further also indicated that additional benefits for Maharaja Club members flying Air India Express will be introduced gradually over the coming months.
These are expected to include services such as priority check-in and boarding, complimentary seat selection, and more flexible cancellation or rescheduling options for eligible members.
