Air India expands Asia connectivity with new flights to Vietnam, Japan

Air India on Wednesday announced the launch of two new international routes to strengthen its presence in Southeast Asia and the Far East, adding non-stop services to Hanoi and Tokyo (Haneda) as part of its ongoing network expansion.

The airline will begin Delhi–Hanoi flights from May 1, 2026, operating five times a week using A320neo aircraft. With this addition, Hanoi becomes Air India’s second destination in Vietnam after Ho Chi Minh City. The new service will enable flexible open-jaw travel options and add over 7,000 seats per month to and from Vietnam.

Air India will also introduce Mumbai–Tokyo (Haneda) flights from June 15, 2026, operating four times weekly with Boeing 787-8 aircraft. The airline already operates daily Delhi–Tokyo (Haneda) services, which have recently seen frequency and product upgrades, including the introduction of Premium Economy.

According to the airline, the expansion reflects rising demand from Indian travellers to Japan and Vietnam, supported by growing trade, tourism, and business ties. Japan has emerged as one of the fastest-growing outbound destinations for Indians, while Vietnam continues to gain traction among leisure and corporate travellers, particularly in the MICE segment.

The new routes will progressively open for bookings across Air India’s website, mobile app, and travel agents.

The airline said the additions are part of its broader strategy to enhance connectivity, improve customer experience, and expand its international footprint.
