Thailand doubles visa-on-arrival fees
BANGKOK: Thailand, a favourite destination for tourists from around the world, has doubled its visa-on- arrival fees for citizens of 18 countries, including India.

The Thai visa fees will go up from Baht 1,000 (Rs 2000) to Baht 2,000 (Rs 4000) with effect from September 27 for visitors having up to 15-day stay.

Visa-on-arrival is available at many points of entry and is good for a single use.

The Foreign Ministry said in its announcement yesterday that the decision to hike the charge for this class of visa was based on what Thai embassies and consulates-general are collecting, to make the fee more comparable.

The 18 countries are Bulgaria, Bhutan, China, Cyprus, Ethiopia, India, Kazakhstan, Latvia, Lithuania, Maldives, Malta, Mauritius, Romania, San Marino, Saudi Arabia, Ukraine, Uzbekistan and Taiwan.
