India declares liberalised visa policy for Canadians
OTTAWA: India today announced a liberalised visa policy for Canadian nationals visiting the country, days after extending a similar scheme to French citizens.

Announcing this here, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said the new visa policy would support greater engagement and people-to-people contacts between India and Canada.

India will issue Electronic Visa Authorisation for tourist visas for Canadian nationals. They will also now be eligible for 10-year visas, said Modi, the first Indian prime minister to visit Canada in 42 years.

Modi is on a state visit to Canada following trips to France and Germany.

During Modi's France visit, Paris had also informed New Delhi of its decision to implement a scheme for expedited 48 hours visa issuance for Indian tourists while the Prime Minister had in turn announced electronic visa facility for French tourists.
