Indians applying for visa to Canada from next year will need to give their biometrics. The requirement will be for those applying for visitor, study, work and permanent residence visa to Canada. Currently, only US, UK and Schengen states asks visa applicants in India to give biometrics.

Children under the age of 14 and senior citizens over the age of 79 are among those exempt from giving biometrics. The official Canada government website says the cost for an individual applicant will be Canadian dollar (CAD$) 85 or about Rs 4,860. “Families applying together at the same time: maximum total fee of CAD$ 170,” it says.

“Biometrics collection is recognised globally. It helps in stopping the entry of those who pose a risk to the health, safety and security of Canadians.”
