Indian students applying for master's programmes in Germany in selected disciplines will now have to clear a new digital Master Test (dMAT) as part of the Academic Evaluation Centre (APS) verification process. The test will be introduced from 2026 and will initially apply to applicants with undergraduate degrees in Engineering, Commerce, Accounting, Finance, Economics, and Business/Management who plan to begin graduate studies in Germany from the Summer Semester 2027 onwards. The dMAT will become an additional requirement alongside the existing APS document verification process, with applicants required to submit the official dMAT certificate while applying for their APS certificate.

The dMAT is a standardised academic aptitude test designed to assess cognitive, analytical and problem-solving abilities rather than subject knowledge acquired through memorisation. Conducted by g.a.s.t. (Gesellschaft für Akademische Studienvorbereitung und Testentwicklung), the test comprises a Core Module and a General Academic Subject Module. After completing the exam, candidates will receive an official certificate issued by g.a.s.t., which must be enclosed with APS application documents and will also be referenced on the APS certificate. Registration, fee payment, test centre booking, technical support and certificate issuance will all be managed through the g.a.s.t. portal.
