Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarships: Here's how you can avail it

Highlights
- Candidates who are in Canada on student visa are also eligible
- Must be nominated by the university in which they are conducting their research
Eligibility
- Citizenship: Canadian citizens, Permanent residents of Canada, and International students (present in Canada on the student visa).
- Nomination: Must be nominated by only one Canadian university, approved under the Vanier CGS quota.
- Only a fixed number of applications are given the scholarship.
- Area of Research: Natural sciences and/or engineering research, Health research, Social sciences and humanities research
- Level of Study: Pursuing a first Canadian doctoral degree (also include a joint UG/PG research program like MD/Ph.D., DVM/Ph.D., JD/Ph.D.).
- Enrolment: Intend to pursue a course in the summer semester or the academic year following the results, in full-time doctoral studies and research.
- Duration of Study: Must NOT have completed more than 20 months.
- Academic Score: Must have achieved a first-class average, in each of the last two years of full-time study or its equivalent.
- Other Criteria: Must NOT hold a doctoral-level scholarship or fellowship from NSERC, CIHR, or SSHRC before.
- Note: Only the Ph.D. portion of a combined degree is eligible for funding under the Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarship.

Way 2:
The university initiates the nomination process by connecting with a suitable candidate. Once selected, it will be the candidates responsibility to fill up the scholarship application and submit it before the deadline.

- Print the entire application and save the PDF version.
- Submit the application online through ResearchNet.

- Role in the research they are going to part of, the medium and the collaboration with the other researchers
- Personal statement
- Outline of accomplishments, leadership etc.
- Challenges and opportunities that have shaped the candidate's doctoral research

- Two Leadership letters of reference
The grant is given under three major categories:

- Around 166 candidates are awarded this scholarship every year.
- An amount of 50,000 Canadian Dollars is granted to eligible candidate.
- The scholarship is renewable for three years
- Eligible applicant’s nomination for Vanier CGS must be sent by a specific university to study in Canada.
- Application begins in April and should be completed by November
