The Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) has retained its position as the world's top university in the QS World University Rankings 2027, while India recorded its strongest-ever representation in the rankings with 52 institutions featured.

Imperial College London and Stanford University shared the second spot in this year's rankings, followed by the University of Oxford, Harvard University and the University of Cambridge.

The latest QS Rankings, continue to be dominated by universities from the United States and the United Kingdom.

IIT Delhi leads Indian institutions

India's highest-ranked institution was IIT Delhi, which climbed to 118th place globally, followed by IIT Bombay at 134th. Several Indian universities improved their positions this year, reflecting the country's growing presence in global higher education.

India now ranks among the world's most represented higher education systems in the QS rankings, with 52 universities included in the 2027 edition.
