Poor law and order deters NRIs from investing in Punjab: UK Mayor

An Indian-origin mayor in the UK has said "poor" law and order situation in Punjab is deterring NRIs from investing in the state.

JALANDHAR: An Indian-origin mayor in the UK has said " poor" law and order situation in Punjab is deterring NRIs from investing in the state.

"The atmosphere is not conducive for investment in Punjab. Law and order is poor and there is no solution for NRIs' problems, which are aggravating day-by-day," Mayor of Hounslow, the UK, Preetam Singh Grewal, told reporters here yesterday.

"Poor law and order situation is one of the most important reasons that deters the NRIs, especially those from Punjab, from making investments," Grewal, who traces his roots to Ludhiana, said.

"If there are no financial relations with the city, the third generation of Punjabis in foreign countries would never come here," Grewal, who is here on a private visit, said.

A favourable atmosphere needs to be created and law and order situation improved to attract investments that would help improve the economic condition of the city, Grewal said.
