Universities and schools across the UAE will move to remote learning from May 5 to May 8, 2026, following missile interceptions, the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research said. The decision applies nationwide, with limited exceptions, and will be reviewed on Friday.

The ministry said the temporary move aims to ensure student and staff safety while maintaining continuity in education. Classes will be conducted online during this period.

Limited exceptions for practical courses

The order excludes priority academic programmes that require clinical training, laboratory work, field-based learning or in-person examinations. These courses will continue on campus as per official guidelines.

The development comes after the Ministry of Defence reported detecting four cruise missiles launched from Iran towards the UAE. Authorities said three missiles were intercepted over territorial waters, while one fell into the sea. The ministry added that the sounds heard in different areas were due to the interception of aerial threats.

The government said the situation will be assessed later this week, and the remote learning period may be extended if required.
